TENNIS

Serve it UP Tennis Academy will teach all the skills, footwork and point play for tennis. Students will learn as they play and work to improve their overall coordination and athletic ability through the drills and fun games. The instructors are certified tennis professionals. All equipment needed to play will be provided.

MUSICAL THEATER

Kidz Kompany is back. Students will learn and perform in Acting Up!, a performance about performing. Entertaining and educational, this 30-minute show moves cleverly through the basics of performing with humor and vitality.

Building a house to withstand the Big, Bad Wolf is where the fun begins in Junior Civil Engineering. This class is centered on exploring the concepts of building and construction through hands-on exploration and design. Students explore the engineering behind skyscrapers, bridges, roads and more in this fun and engaging experience. Students will…

CRAFT KINGDOM

Time to spark creative minds and develop fine motor coordination! Join avid crafter Marie Matthews for adorable and fun projects. Crafts will be designed so children can participate at their own ability and skill level. Weekly projects will be connected to seasonal themes and include sensory play, printing, and story-themed projects.

COMIC BOOK CREATION

Do you like to draw and read comic books? In this class, you will learn to develop your original ideas on paper and create your own short comic book that you can take home and share with your friends. You will also learn about different types of comic books and famous comic illustrators. This class is taught by former PRM student Isabella Gamez, who is an Honors Art 8th grader at Piedmont Open IB Middle School.

Kidz Kompany is back with a class for younger students. Students will learn theater terminology and how actors control what the audience sees and hears when becoming a character. Students will also learn basic steps and stunts that are useful for actors.

POTTERY

Pottery is full for the fall session.

Celena Burnett, local studio potter for 23 years and teaching for 16, will lead the ceramic class covering the basics (such as pitch, coil and slab-built pot) as well as work on the pottery wheel. The children will be working with earthenware clay and be making fun projects that will be fired so that projects can be taken home. Some pieces will be functional and some will be decorative.

Join former Creative Memories consultant Marie Matthews to capture those special moments and preserve them outside the digital world. Scrapbooking is a great medium to learn storytelling, instill gratitude, encourage reflection, and foster creativity. And it’s really, really fun!

ENGINEERING FOR KIDS - ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

The curriculum for the Electircal Engineering program is designed to introduce students to the concepts of circuit design, building and maintenance through various hands-on activities. Students will walk away with and in-depth knowledge on basic circuits.
Students will:
* Explore the difference between a conductor and an insulator
* Understand that all materials have an electrical property
* Investigate the correlation between the length of the pencil lead and the brightness of the light bulb
* Learn how to build a simple circuit.

MIXED MEDIA ART

Join professional artist and children’s instructor Laurie Richardson for a fun multimedia art class. We will experiment with different mediums – pencils, markers, paints and pastels – while we learn about famous artists, past and present. Students will learn about the basic elements of art while gaining confidence in their drawing skills and discovering new ways to be creative.

Yoga is full for the fall. Look for it to return for the winter session.

Mary Beth Bender of Twist Kids Yoga will lead the students in a yoga class that will be specifically designed to nurture the physical, emotional and social needs of the students through exploring yoga postures and encouraging class themes. Yoga teaches the students body and breath awareness that will improve their balance, flexibility, strength, concentration and settle the nervous system. The kids will greatly benefit from starting their day with this practice! (Please bring your own mat.)

LEGO® ENGINEERING

Bricks4Kidz® is offering a hands-on class where students will design and build educational models including motorized machines. Each hour-long class is an enriching experience for your child. Kids build a new project each week using LEGO® bricks. The unique models aren’t the kits you find on the shelves of a toy store. They’re designed by Bricks 4 Kidz® to teach concepts across a variety of subject areas. Each unit is based on engaging themes such as space, inventions and more. We kick things off with a discussion about key concepts related to the model, and then get right into the building. Working with a partner, your child will experience the hands-on fun of seeing a model come together piece by piece.

This introduction to dance will explore different styles of dance from Western dance styles (ballet, jazz, tap, musical theater, contemporary, hip hop) to cultural and folk dances (Africa, Mexico, Israel) and dance styles for exercise and fun (Zumba and line dances), students will get a taste of the many forms of dance.
